Professor Gourgoulianis on vaccination: “If we can not convince, we must force” |

by

The professor of Pulmonology at the University of Thessaly, Costas Gourgoulianis, spoke on the front page about the great outbreak of cases in Greece and the problem with hospitalizations and deaths.

Asked about the reasons for this outbreak, he replied that “Greece is a country with a low rate of vaccinations, a large percentage of 60 and over are unvaccinated, while there is no primary medical care or family doctor who knows the family and can convince them to be vaccinated “. According to the professor, the cold also played a role, as well as the relations with the Balkan countries that have low vaccination rates “.

He explained that “if we can not convince, we have to force vaccinations. They go because they are afraid to get the vaccine, not because of knowledge, something went wrong in terms of communication “.

In relation to pandemic waves, he explained that they usually last about 1.5 months. The March wave lasted longer. He estimated that next month Greece will reach 90% -95% with difficulty in immunity rates (vaccinated and those who became ill), while he expects that we will not have a corresponding wave in February. He acknowledged, however, that all the models for the predictions had failed.
