For the inclusion of real estate expropriations for projects of general importance for the country’s economy in article 7A of the Code of Compulsory Real Estate Expropriations informed the cabinetwhich met under the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis.
In particular, he proposed, on the part of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, an additional list, which concerns five projects, four of which are implemented by the ministry and one by the North Aegean Region.
The first concerns the urgent repair and reconstruction works of bridges in Euboea and in particular on the Vasilikos bridge, on the bridge in the settlement of Fylla and on the bridge in the settlement of Afrati, areas affected by the floods of August 9, 2020, as the Government had committed from the first moment.
The second concerns the construction of the new bridge Keriti with the accompanying road works, in the settlement Alikianos of the Municipality of Platanias of Chania.
“This project is a project of general importance for the economy of the country and especially of the wider area of ​​the prefecture of Chania and Crete. The area of ​​the prefecture of Chania has recently been affected by floods and there is an urgent need to protect citizens and their property from similar extreme natural phenomena. “There is also an immediate need for road connection of the urban fabric of the wider area, which today is cut off due to the collapse of the aforementioned bridges”, pointed out Mr. Karamanlis.
The third project concerns the road connection of the young General Hospital of Spartathe reconstruction of which is a donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
In addition to the obligations of the Greek State arising from Law 4667 of 2020, the service of traffic to and from the General Hospital of Sparta, as well as the provision of the necessary conditions of road safety and comfortable access, is considered extremely necessary.
Mr. Karamanlis underlined that due to the inflexible deadlines for the implementation of the donation, there is an immediate need to start the procedures.
The fourth work is related to Corfu airport and concerns projects for the elimination of incompatibilities with EASA regulations.
“This is a project of national importance in order to comply with Corfu Airport with the requirements of the European Aviation Safety Agency, as they were specified by the Civil Aviation Authority and EASA”, noted Mr. Karamanlis and added: necessary for the safe operation of Corfu Airport and the acquisition of relevant certification, which will make it comply with European Flight Safety Regulations “.
The fifth project, of the North Aegean Region, concerns the improvement of the sections of the provincial road Papadou- Plomariou.
“Dealing with the effects of the catastrophic earthquake of June 12, 2017 on the island of Lesvos is extremely important, since the provincial road Papadou-Plomari is one of the main roads of Lesvos, which connects the most important tourist areas of Lesvos, Plomari Mytilene “, said Mr. Karamanlis and added:” In recent years Plomari has attracted a large volume of foreign investment and construction activity is growing. In addition, the port of Plomari is going to function as a “Schengen” entrance gate and the corresponding projects for the creation of the gate are already under construction “.
