The Region of Peloponnese and the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine inform them with an announcement that “on August 7″ a new outbreak of Goat and Sheep Disease was confirmed in three farms of the P.E. Corinthia, in the Karteri settlement of the Kastaneas Community of the Municipality of Sikyonia”.

According to the announcement of the Peloponnese Region, the measures taken immediately to deal with the disease by the Veterinary Services are the following:

The Protection and Surveillance Zones were defined

i. The 3 km radius Protection Zone around the contaminated farm includes the following Communities and settlements:

P.E. Corinthia, Municipality of Sikyonia > Lavka, Karteri

In the Protection Zone

1. All holdings that have animals of sensitive species that undergo periodic veterinary inspection were listed

2. The movement and transport of animals of sensitive species on public or private roads is prohibited, excluding farm service roads

3. Restriction of animals of sensitive species on the holding, unless they are to be transported, under official veterinary control, directly to a slaughterhouse for emergency slaughter, located in the same zone or, failing that, to a slaughterhouse in the surveillance zone

4. The measures in the Protection Zone will be maintained for twenty-one days after the killing of all the animals of the infected holdings and the completion of the cleaning and disinfection work on them.

5. After the expiry of the above-mentioned period, the measures of the Surveillance Zone will be applied

In the Protection Zone, the controls concern 12 farms with 1,400 animals and have been completed.

ii. The 10 km radius Surveillance Zone around the contaminated farm includes the following Communities and Settlements:

P.E. Corinthia, Municipality of Sikyonia > Stymfalia, Kyllini, Drosopigi, Kastania, Kallianoi, Mati, Mosia, Messino

P.E. Argolidas, Municipality of Argos – Mycenae > Skotini

P.E. Arkadias, Municipality of Tripoli > Kandila

In the Surveillance Zone

1. All holdings that have animals of sensitive species were enumerated

2. The movement of animals of sensitive species on public roads was prohibited, unless they were driven to pastures or to their stables.

3. It is allowed to transport animals of sensitive species within the Surveillance Zone, only after permission from the Veterinary Department

4. Animals of sensitive species were prohibited from leaving the Surveillance Zone for thirty days

5. Measures in the Surveillance Zone will be maintained for thirty days

In the Surveillance Zone, the controls concern 115 farms with 18,100 animals.

The controls at the P.E. have been completed. Korinthia and Argolida and the checks are in progress in P.E. Arcadia.
