The Prosecutor decided to acquit the two Italians, recognizing the mitigating factor that they extinguished the fire themselves.
The competent authorities proceeded to arrest two men who lit a fire on a beach in Antipaxos near a forest area.
As it became known from the Fire Department, these are two Italians, boat captains, aged 50 and 53, who started a fire on Pigi beach in Antipaxos. Investigative officers of the Paxos Police Department arrested the two men, as part of the spontaneous procedure, while each was imposed an administrative fine of 2,250 euros.
According to information from the Fire Department, the two men were taken to the Prosecutor who decided to acquit them, recognizing the mitigating factor that they put out the fire themselves.
In particular, a statement from the Fire Department states: “They were arrested, today, August 22, 2024, as part of the spontaneous procedure, by investigative officers of the P.K. Paxos, two foreigners, who set a fire on a beach near a wooded area, in violation of existing legislation, in the “Pigi beach” area, on the island of Antipaxos, in the Municipality of Paxos, Corfu, and an administrative fine of 2,250 euros was imposed on each of them.
