Rescue crews recovered the 60-year-old dead from an inaccessible area of Kithairona
Messolonghi mourns yet another air sports lover as rescue crews retrieved a dead 60-year-old man from an inaccessible area of Kithairona yesterday afternoon, after his glider fell.
According to nafpaktianews.gr, the accident happened on Tuesday afternoon when he was declared missing and a gigantic operation by the Fire Department immediately began to locate him.
Finally, yesterday at noon, the spot where the glider fell was detected by drones and firefighters approached the spot, finding the unfortunate man dead.
The following press release was issued by the Fire Department regarding the accident:
“During the evening hours yesterday, Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the Operations Center of the Fire Brigade was alerted, in search of a missing local hang glider, in the mountainous massif of Kithaironas.
A search and rescue team was immediately set up consisting of 15 firefighters with the Mountaineering Search and Rescue Teams of the 1st and 7th EMAK as well as a S.mi.EA.A team. (drone) of the Fire Department.
Midday hours today, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, after the missing person was located in a difficult place in Kithairona near the toponym “Three Peaks”, by the S.mi.E.A. team. (drone) of the Fire Brigade, the Firemen approached him and transported him unconscious to the vicinity of the Byzantine church of Agios Ioannis Prodromos where he was received by an EKAB ambulance.
The operation was completed at noon today, Wednesday, August 28, 2024.”
