Sworn Administrative Examination ordered the chief of the Fire Department, as announced by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, regarding a car accident in Thassos that claimed the life of seasonal firefighter Andreas Andreadis. As Mr. Kikilias states, the car accident in Thassos, “as it turned out, happened while on duty” and adds that an EDE was ordered “in order to fully and in-depth investigate the circumstances, as well as assign the responsibilities where appropriate”.

Specifically, Mr. Kikilias stated:

“The car accident in Thassos that claimed the life of our seasonal firefighter, Andreas Andreadis, apparently happened while on duty. The head of the Fire Brigade ordered an EDE, in order to fully and in-depth investigate the circumstances, as well as to attribute the responsibilities where appropriate.

I want to express our sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased.”

It is noted that the seasonal firefighters in their post on a social network complain that their colleague “worked 24 hours in a row, went to school at 7:30 in the morning and after 2.5 hours, at 10 am of the same day, he was called to take over service for another ten hours, a certain sleepless driver, in a vehicle with 5 other crew members”. “Our colleague in Thassos who lost his life while on duty, was assigned 34 hours of duty with 2.5 hours of rest in total of these hours (rest was given after 24 hours from 07:30 to 10:00 in the morning where he took over and service again)”, they say.

The car accident happened on Thursday, August 29, 2024, on a municipal street in Thassos, shortly before 2:00 p.m. when a 38-year-old car driver collided head-on with a two-wheeled motorcycle driven by a 50-year-old seasonal firefighter, resulting in the fatal injury of the 50-year-old, according to a Police announcement.
