The initiative is part of Nova’s corporate responsibility program to relieve and support areas affected by natural disasters
Nova is loyal to its commitment to the environment, local communities and supporting the sustainability of Greece, undertakes Restoration and Reforestation Contractor of the emblematic area of the Holy Monastery of Penteli in Atticaresponding to the urgent environmental needs that arose after the widespread fire of August 11, 2024.
This new initiative follows the large-scale forest restoration and regeneration projects in the Dadia Evros National Park and the island of Rhodes, in the first half of 2024, as well as the undertaking of the “Smart Forest Rhodes” project concerning the placement in the Butterfly Valley -area where it belongs to the Natura 2000 network– an intelligent fire prevention and management system, through artificial intelligence tools, in accordance with the major corresponding project “Smart Ymittos” designed and implemented by Nova ICT.
The Reforestation and Restoration at the Holy Monastery of Penteli will take place in a burnt forest area of 70 acreswhere Nova will proceed with the planting and subsequent care of 4,200 trees. Thus, the forest area that houses the Monastery building, which dates back to 1578 and during the Ottoman Empire was one of the most important centers of education for the Greek language, will be protected and highlighted, while it has been designated as an archaeological site and a preserved building .
The project will be implemented with the support of external experts and in close cooperation with the General Directorate of Forests and Forest Environment of the General Secretariat of Forests of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the Pentelis Forestry Office.
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Theodore Skylakakisnoted: “We welcome the initiative for the restoration and reforestation of the area of the Holy Monastery of Penteli in Attica and we hope that it will find imitators from the world of entrepreneurship, in the context of corporate social responsibility. For our part, at the Ministry of Environment and Energy, we will continue the actions to protect the environment, shield it from the threats of the climate crisis and deal with its effects, to the extent possible. In this direction, we have announced and are implementing an emblematic forest reform, which aims to increase the resilience of our forests and reduce their vulnerability to the impending climate crisis.”
