The municipality of Oropos will proceed with the reconstruction of the coastal front of Skala-Neon Palatia, after the approval of the relevant study by the regional council. The renovation concerns a total area of ​​56,000 sq.m., as it extends from the old prisons in the west, to the border of Nea Palatia-Markopoulou Oropou in the east.

Specifically it includes:

– The land port area.

– The coastal road about one kilometer long.

– The squares of Agios Andreas, Mother, Heroes and two other squares on Propontidos Street in Nea Palatia and the surrounding streets.

– It is proposed the construction of two level junctions and the construction of an organized parking lot of 165 spaces at the western end of the city, which in combination with the new parking space of 120 spaces at the eastern end (construction will start next two months) will largely solve parking problem.

– Creation of sports facilities with outdoor fitness equipment.

Creation of new playgrounds.

– Installation of underground waste bins.

– Creation of a bicycle path.

Creation of a new coastal sidewalk.

– The installation of a new irrigation system is planned.

– New electric lighting system.

– Rainwater drainage network.

– In the intermediate zone with the coastal road, the catering uses are located and uniform constructions of wood, glass and metal are placed, for the shops of sanitary interest.

– Expands the quay of the fishing shelter, increasing the capacity of boats.

– The natural coastal environment is restored in the intervention area opposite the Propontis square, demolishing part of configurations that have been constructed in the past without the necessary permits.

“This is a very big and very important project for our region”, stressed the mayor of Oropos George Giasimakis and continued: “It will radically change the current situation and in combination with the creation of a Museum of Democracy and cultural structures in the neighborhood of the old prisons Oropos, which will be auctioned until Easter, the development of the wetland Oropos, whose study is completed, but also with the launch of the coastal road project, which will connect the municipality of Oropos with the municipality of Marathon, will give a development perspective for in northern Attica, will motivate anyone who wants to visit our place, will motivate anyone who wants to stay in our place “.
