The General Confederation of Greek Workers, in the context of the start of the new school year, reminds that the employer will grant a school attendance permit for the parents of children up to 18 years of age who attend elementary or secondary education courses.

Based on current legislation, beneficiaries of the school attendance permit of the children and in general of their presence at school are all working parents, full or part time.

The duration of the leave is up to 4 working days for each calendar year.

School attendance leave is granted independently for each child who is a student, regardless of whether the other parent works or not and regardless of the number of employees in the enterprise.

Also, it is granted without a cut in wages and is not offset against the other leaves granted to employees.

Working parents are entitled to be absent ocertain hours or the whole day.

As long as both parents are working, they decide which of them will use this leave, or if they wish to use it jointly, they decide and inform with their responsible declaration how long each one will use the leave, which, however, cannot in total exceeds four days in total for both parents.

If more favorable arrangements apply, based on law, Collective Labor Agreement (CBA) or labor regulations, these apply.

Elementary education also includes kindergartenschooling in which, by law, is now two years for infants who turn four on December 31 of the year of enrollment.

As stated in a relevant announcement, the school attendance permit can be granted on the day of the consecration, at the beginning of the school year, as well as on the days of school holidays or events, because the parent can also be informed on these days about issues operation and organization of the school, for the planning of the educational process, for the child’s performance, while it can inform and discuss more general issues or problems concerning attendance, behavior, the child’s inclusion in the school unit or the interaction with the other children, issues that are also very important for his psychosocial development and health.

Parents of children with disabilities, regardless of their age, who attend a special education structure of the Ministry of Education or are enrolled and attend programs in Day Care Centers for Persons with Disabilities, Centers for Creative Employment of Persons with Disabilities and special educational institutions are also entitled to this permit. .

The unions, the local Labor Centers and the Power Federations of the GSEE emphasize that they are vigilant about the complaints of the workers.
