The new measures and the actions at the Ministry of Health
The political leadership of the Ministry of Health proceeded today with the specialization of the new measures to support the National Health System (NHS).
The specialization was carried out by the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, the Deputy Irini Agapidakis and the Deputy Ministers Marios Themistokleous and Dimitris Vartzopoulos of the measures announced by the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the 88th TIF.
The three-year health reform goals were presented, as well as the financial support of the NHS doctors, issues that occupied the meeting at the Maximos Palace.
The Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, in his introductory statement, characterized as “lies and a product of propaganda” that the National Health Service has been left to its fate, emphasizing characteristically: “It is not possible for the National Health Service, in its 80,000 contacts with citizens every day, not to have some failure. The goal is to make them as few as possible. We cannot allow the propaganda to be cultivated, that we have left the NSS to their fate. Shortcomings certainly exist, but the intensity they present is hypocritical. Our government, the prime minister, we have great care for the NHS to respond to the challenges of the time”, he said adding that “the NHS has problems because it is an extensive network. “One failure cannot cover 79,000 successes.”
At the Press Conference, Deputy Minister of Health Irini Agapidaki referred to the bill for the personal doctor, which, as she said, will include other provisions as well as actions related to prevention, an area that is a priority for the government. “Our goal is to add additional pediatricians to cover more than half a million children for free,” he pointed out and added that “we must create new conditions and build the system with new materials.”
By the end of the week or at the beginning of the next, the bill for the personal doctor and the strengthening of Primary Health Care (PHY), as he announced during a press conference on the specialization of the government’s health priorities, will be submitted to public consultation. the Deputy Minister of Health, Irini Agapidaki.
Incentives for doctors
Mrs. Agapidaki reiterated the basic points of the bill, such as the financial incentives for young doctors who will choose general medicine or pathology (30,000 euros), the staffing of the personal doctor system with 2,500 more doctors, so that, as she said, all citizens to have their own personal doctor and the establishment of seven university health centers that will also undertake the part of telemedicine in the islands.
He also announced that for the first time the part of child care is being strengthened. In the first phase, there will be free coverage for more than 500,000 children.
He referred to the screening program, announcing that the colon cancer prevention program is starting in the next few days, and called on citizens not to ignore the sms for simple preventive tests.
The Deputy Minister of Health noted that the problems of the National Health Service are due to the leakage of human resources and the chronic pathologies with a common denominator being the lack of organization. “Until now there was no organized prevention system and today the state comes and organizes this system. This will happen in every sector of the NHS”, he stressed.
“The new NHS needs new materials and if we want better health services, new skills and new specialties are needed. People who will be able to cope with modern needs. This is what we are investing in”, concluded Ms. Agapidaki.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistocleouspublished the lists of personnel currently serving in the NHS and added: “Every day 3,500 thousand people are operated on in the NHS, 60,000 go through outpatient clinics and 6,500 thousand are hospitalized. If the NHS did not work, society would also collapse. “Let’s say the National Social Security System has problems, let’s say it’s collapsing.”
