Targeted checks on school buses were carried out by ELAS today on the occasion of the start of the new school year across the country.

In this context, 1,621 school buses were checked and 214 violations were confirmed, namely:

• 76 for tachograph,

• 57 for speed limit violation,

• 24 for non-compliance with working hours,

• 11 for not using seat belts,

• 9 for lack of fire extinguisher,

• 4 for lack of a pharmacy,

• 3 for deprivation of a certificate of professional competence,

• 3 for deprivation of an insurance policy,

• 2 for deprivation of a prescribed driver’s license,

• 1 for deprivation of a technical inspection certificate,

• 1 for worn tires and

• 23 other violations.

In addition, on the occasion of the start of the new school year, police officers throughout the country distributed leaflets with road safety and traffic education advice to parents and young students when they arrived at the various school complexes for the established consecration ceremony.

This is an initiative of the Hellenic Police Headquarters that aims to inform and raise awareness of parents and students on road safety issues, especially during their journeys to and from school complexes.

As emphasized in the relevant announcement “the efforts of the Traffic Services throughout the country are continuous and repeated with the aim of raising public awareness with the ultimate goal of preventing traffic accidents”.
