The measures announced by the Prime Minister at the 88th TIF to deal with the housing issue were detailed by the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zacharakis, and the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis, under the coordination of government representative Pavlos Marinakis.

The measures foresee direct support to those in need in order to give more opportunities to stem the wave of increases, Mr. Marinakis emphasized.

Elaborating on the measures, Zaharaki said that Greece also joined the European “dance” that is negatively affected by the lack of housing.

In this direction, it was announced “My House 2”, which comes to complement it “My house 1”.

The new First Home Mortgage Program (House II) for approximately 20,000 beneficiaries which is expected to open in January 2025, will provide for:

  • 50% interest-free loan from the Recovery Fund New First Home Mortgage Program
  • 50% interest bank loan

The advantages will be the following:

  • Averagely low interest rate
  • Extended age criteria for beneficiaries (up to 50 years)
  • Expanded income criteria 50% interest bank loan
  • For those with three or many children, a 75% interest-free loan from the Recovery Fund and a 25% interest-bearing bank loan are provided.

It will concern properties worth up to 250,000 euros with an area of ​​up to 150 sq.m. and construction until 2007.

The amount of the loan will be up to 190,000 euros and up to 90% of the contract. The loan term will be from 3 to 30 years.

It concerns individuals or couples aged 25 to 50 with income:

  • up to 20,000 euros for singles
  • up to 28,000 euros for couples + 4,000 euros / child
  • up to 31,000 euros for a single-parent family + 5,000 euros / child

Resources of 3.2 billion euros so far through programs such as “House I” which has disbursed 7,123 loans amounting to 685 million euros by the end of the year will reach 9,185 loans.

Mrs. Zaharaki announced that a program has been launched for the housing of civil servants, while for this purpose a study has been launched by municipalities with the cooperation of EETAA.

In 2023 the needs for teachers and doctors in 31 island municipalities amounted to 3,086 people. “We are looking for a mixed scheme to use municipal property for their housing,” Mr. Zaharakis said, adding that empty police buildings and schools will be used.

As an example, a plot of land in Kastelorizo ​​was mentioned where port officers will live and then it will be given to civil servants.

The “Upgrading My Home” program, which will open in January 2025, provides a 100% rent subsidy of the bank loan for everyone and concerns over 20,000 beneficiaries.

The program is open to all natural persons – home owners (main or secondary) and provides low-interest loans for energy upgrades.
