Ford Pro is breaking new ground for plug-in hybrid pick-up vehicles with the all-new Ranger PHEV, which makes its world debut today at the IAA TRANSPORTATION show.

The uncompromising new model of the Ford Pro offers the leading capabilities of the popular Ranger family in terms of towing, payload and off-road performance, combined with the possibility of a pure electric drive, strengthening the leadership of the Ford Pro in Europe in the pick-up segment -up vehicles and expanding Ford’s comprehensive range of plug-in hybrid and pure battery electric vehicles.

With a torque that reaches the 690Nm (more than any other production Ranger) and all-electric range more than 45 kmthe new version broadens the appeal of the pick-up model. The Ranger PHEV also introduces Pro Power Onboard to the Ranger family, giving customers the ability to power tools up to 6.9kW directly from the onboard battery, rather than needing a generator.

In addition to the Wildtrak and XLT versions, Ford Pro today introduces the new model in the exclusive PHEV Stormtrak launch version.

“The new Ranger PHEV offers the benefits of electrification along with the high performance that every professional is looking for, which has created a loyal fan base for the Ranger in Europe. We’ve perfected our first plug-in hybrid pick-up model for Europe to be a highly capable tool for work and off-road driving, and at the same time a premium vehicle that has the comfort, connectivity and electric range to meet the needs of a family,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe.

The Ranger PHEV will be built in Silverton, South Africa, and first customer deliveries are expected from spring 2025. The new model joins the existing range of diesel Rangers in Europe. With the new model, the Ranger range becomes more suitable for the diverse needs of customers and the current emission regulations.

Introducing plug-in hybrid technology to pick-up models

The new PHEV powertrain combines the gasoline engine 2.3 liter EcoBoost of Ford and the company’s 10-speed automatic transmission with one electric motor with a power of 75 kW and one battery with a useful capacity of 11.8 kWh. OR torque of 690 Nm is the highest of any production Ranger and thanks to a maximum output of 279 PS, the PHEV version makes more power than a diesel Ranger 3.0L V6.

The new Modular Hybrid Transmission integrates the Ranger PHEV’s electric motor into the box housing to ensure seamless hybrid operation of the system. Battery charging takes time less than four hours using a 16 amp single-phase charger ensuring a targeted range more than 45 km in pure electric mode.

The Ranger PHEV delivers the same high-performance performance that has given the diesel and petrol Rangers armies of devoted fans around the world. Customers of the new Ranger PHEV will continue to be able to carry payload up to 1 ton, tow up to 3,500 kg and benefit from the off-road capabilities offered by the Ranger’s e-4WD system, dual-range transfer case (short/long ratios) and locking rear differential. The high voltage battery is mounted between specially designed frame rails.

The electric motor allows the Ranger PHEV to run electrically, and drivers can choose when and how to use battery power using one of Auto EV, EV Now, EV Later and EV Charge modes.

Customers can also benefit from the regenerative braking provided by the electric motor and additional torque when towing, carrying heavier loads and driving in difficult off-road conditions such as driving on rocky surfaces and steep roads. Also, Ford engineers revised the post setup for optimal comfort and guaranteed on- and off-road performance, while taking into account the special requirements set forth by both the unique frame and weight distribution of the new Ranger PHEV.

In markets where it is available, Ford Pro Home Charging allows owners to schedule charging at night to take advantage of cheaper tariffs. Ford estimates that the hybrid powertrain will offer fuel savings compared to higher-displacement diesel versions of the Ranger powered by Ford’s V6 engine.

The technology Pro Power Onboard of the new Ranger PHEV supports customers who need extra power for work or outings by providing the ability to power high-performance tools and equipment on construction sites or camping without the use of a generator. The system offers standard charging power 2.3 kWbut customers can also choose the version of 6.9 kW which features two 15 amp supplies in the boot – with 3.45kW available for each so they can handle the demands of running heavy-duty equipment.

The Stormtrak launch edition offers high-spec standard equipment, including:
