The quadruple homicide in Andravida, Ilia, was characterized as a particularly heinous crime by the General Regional Police Director of Western Greece, Lieutenant General Apostolos Martzaklis, during a press conference he gave this afternoon in Patras, to investigate the case.
As he said, the investigation of the case was immediate with arrest of the 60-year-old yesterday at noon in Pyrgos, but after he had been located late last night in Patras and brought to the police.
Regarding the attitude of the 60-year-old during his examination at the Security of the Tower, Apostolos Martzaklis said that “the perpetrator, under the weight of the evidence of the preliminary investigation, confessed that he committed the murders of the 31-year-old and the 37-year-old where he had hidden the weapon of the crime. “
According to the lieutenant general, “a 9mm pistol with a magazine carrying five cartridges, 12 9mm cartridges and three 0.45 caliber cartridges were found in a bag that was carefully hidden in a boiler room of an apartment building in Patras.”
As the director general of police added, “after a ballistic and laboratory examination, the pistol that was found was identified as the firearm with which the 60-year-old committed the two homicides”.
Asked why the shots were not heard from the locals, he said that the perpetrator shot his victims almost in contact.
Regarding the murders of the two infants of the family, aged two and three respectively, Apostolos Martzaklis said that “the 60-year-old has not confessed to them”, adding that during the pre-investigation process he referred to the presence of the two infants at home, saying then he does not want to remember what exactly happened all he said to the police was that “he has no forgiveness for this.”
However, as the lieutenant general pointed out regarding the murders of the two children, the results of the laboratory tests from the samples of genetic material that have been taken are expected.
Regarding the financial transactions that the perpetrator had with the 31-year-old, he said that had disputes over the repayment of rents for the house in which he lived with his family, while in the past the perpetrator had cut off the water supply.
Also, during a search of the 60-year-old’s house in Andravida, the police found the amount of 15,000 euros carefully hidden.
Regarding the chronology of the case, the general regional police director of Western Greece stated:
“The detainee went last Wednesday afternoon to a house owned by him in Andravida, which he rented to a couple of foreigners, who lived with three minor children, and with the use of a firearm, fatally wounded the 32-year-old foreign father of two, the 37-year-old his foreign wife, while at the same time causing suffocating death, by airway obstruction, to their two minor children, aged two and three, respectively.
The defendant then transferred them bodies of the two adult victims and placed them in a trailer owned by him, which was parked in his warehouse, next to it, in the house that the couple rented.
In addition, the perpetrator had deposited next to the trailer“on the bedding, the body of the three-year-old child of the victims, while the body of the two-year-old boy, was found by the 12-year-old son of the 37-year-old, inside the house, when he was returning to it.”
Then, as Apostolos Martzaklis stated, “immediately after the act, the perpetrator fled on foot, to his house, which is located nearby, from the crime scene, where he got into a truck owned by him and fled.”
Regarding the large police operation to locate the 60-year-old, the lieutenant general said that “after utilizing information, the police located the perpetrator last night driving his car in the area of ​​Midilogli and then he was immobilized”.
The perpetrator, against whom a case was filed for intentional homicide, in a row and violation of the law on weapons, is expected to be brought today to the prosecutor of the Court of First Instance of Amaliada.
Present at today’s press conference were the director of Pyrgos Security, Charalambos Patsouris and the commander of the Ilida Security Department, Christos Alexandropoulos.
Afterwards, Apostolos Martzaklis congratulated the directors of the Ilia and Achaia police departments, the directors, the commander and the staff of the Tower Security sub-directorate, the Ilida Security department and the Crimes against Life and Property sub-directorate, as well as their police officers involved, because, as he said, “they cooperated directly, persistently and methodically to investigate the homicides and arrest the perpetrator.”
He also thanked the director and the staff of the Directorate of Criminological Investigations, as well as the head of the Forensic Medicine Service of Patras for their immediate, as he stressed, “response and their very important scientific contribution to the investigations”.
