A decorated former policeman defrauded an elderly woman, extracting 40,000 euros from her.

In particular, following an investigation by the Patras Police for the detection of fraud against an elderly woman in Vrachneika, Achaia, from whom the perpetrators extorted 40,000 euros under the guise of allegedly immediate need for her daughter’s surgeryafter a traffic accident, one of the leading fraudsters turned out to be the 41-year-old decorated ex-policeman, extremely well-known in Patras.

After all, this former police officer had received the highest honor from the Corps, the “Police Cross” in 2020 and then retired due to the health problems he was facing. He was injured in 2014, after an exchange of fire during the pursuit of the leader of the Revolutionary Struggle, Nikos Maziotis, after an armed robbery at a bank, in Kleitoria Achaia.

The Police of Patras proceeded to file a case against him and against his two unknown accomplices, one of whom was a woman.

On September 10, one of the perpetrators called the elderly woman on the phone with concealment and speaking broken Greek, pretending to be a doctor of the University General Hospital of Patras, demanded the sum of €40,000 in order to cover the alleged surgery costs of her daughter, who as he told her that she had seriously hit her leg and had to be operated on immediately.

At the same time, during the conversation between them, their accomplice, pretending to be her daughter, tried to convince her to hand over the money. The victim was convinced by their words and agreed to pay the sum of money, at a location where the members of the criminal organization indicated to her, specifically at the church of Agios Vassiliou, Vrachnaikon area, where their third accomplice would be waiting for her. The victim did go to the appointment and handed over the sum of 40,000 euros to a man unknown to her who left on a motorcycle.

From the preliminary investigation carried out, the identification of the former policeman emerged, who had gone to the scene on his BMW motorcycle and then returned to his house with the money.

Following this information, Patras Police officers, in the presence of a judicial officer, went to his house, where they confiscated a motorbike trunk and items of motorcyclist clothing as evidence directly related to the crime under investigation, as well as the former policeman’s motorcycle.

The accused was also found inside the house and brought in, where he was identified by the victim. When examined in this regard, he accepted his participation in the fraud, admitted that he went to the area of ​​Vrachnaiki and received the sum of 40,000 euros from the victim, which he handed over, as he claimed, in the evening hours of the same day, to an accomplice unknown to him. in the city of Serres.

For this case, a case was filed for fraud against a local man whose full details have been identified.

In particular, the defendant, acting with his accomplices, who are wanted on 10-9-2024, in Patras, deceived an elderly woman over the phone under the pretext of the immediate need for her daughter to undergo surgery due to a previous accident, and took 40,000 euros from her.

From the preliminary investigation by the police officers of the Patras Security Sub-Directorate, it emerged that the accused went on a motorcycle to the house of the elderly woman, from which he took the sum of 40,000 euros.

The case filed against the accused and his accomplices will be submitted to the Prosecutor of First Instance of Patras, while his motorcycle was confiscated as a means of facilitating the commission of the criminal act».
