ELAS proceeded to investigate an attack with a military rifle, at the expense of Policemen of the DIAS Group in its area Nea Ionia in 2014.

A 41-year-old man was arrested for the case, pursuant to a relevant warrant, who was located following a coordinated police operation, on Thursday in the area of Agios Stefanos.

The timeline of the case

Regarding the history of the case, in November 2014, police officers of the DI.AS Team. they spotted two people riding a motorcycle and, in order to avoid control, they developed speed. During the ensuing pursuit, the passenger fired at the officers five times with a combat rifle, which he had hidden inside his jacket.

Then, the motorcycle veered off its course and the passenger managed to escape, while his 43-year-old accomplice and driver of the motorcycle was arrested.

A search of the area resulted in the seizure of motorcycle equipment (a motorcycle helmet, a pair of gloves and a full-face hood, which had sections of tape attached) as well as a military rifle with a cartridge in the chamber and a magazine with 23 rounds.

A case file had been filed for the case by Northeast Attica Security Sub-Directorate for attempted homicide with complicity by particularly dangerous offenders, as well as a violation of the Weapons Act, which had been submitted to the competent prosecutor’s office in 2014.

From the subsequent collection and evaluation of newer information, it was determined that the 41-year-old was a passenger on the motorcycle and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

In the search that followed at his home, a large amount of digital evidence was seized, while the laboratory examination of biological material, which was taken from the 41-year-old by order of competent Investigatordemonstrated that this is the wanted person.

It is pointed out that the 41-year-old had previously engaged the authorities again for similar offences.

The arrested person was brought before the competent Prosecutor and then before an investigator, from where he was given a deadline to apologize.
