In the second half of 2026, it is expected to be completed new Western Attica Suburban Railway budget of 132 million euros including VAT, financed by the Recovery Fund.

As he emphasizes, a freight train is equal to the traffic of 15-20 heavy vehicles on the road axes.
The project of upgrading the existing Western Attica Suburban Railway, specifically the Department of Upper Liosia – Neos S.S. Megaron – P.S. Megaron, with the contractor METKA of the Metlen group, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF) and will connect Western Attica with Athens, Athens International Airport, Piraeus and the rest of the railway network. The project concerns the construction of a new suburban railway branch from Ano Liosia to Megara, within the existing railway corridor of the old railway line to Peloponnese. Briefly, the scope of the project concerns the construction of a single line 36 km long in the west of Athens, from Ano Liosia to the old Megara Railway Station, on the axis of the old metric line of the SPAP, serving the densely populated areas of Aspropyrgos, Elefsina, Neraki , Nea Peramos and Megaron.
On Friday, Mr. Terezakis visited together with the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Vassilis Oikonomou the area in the context of autopsy and information from the Contractor on the progress of the works.
In particular, the project with a total length of 34.6 km concerns the renovation of the infrastructure of the Railway Line with new materials and its certification to the principles of Interoperability and includes installation of a 25kV overhead contact line system, installation of a signaling and remote control system with ETCS L1 with all information systems of stations, telecommunication systems and IT facilities at the stations The final project will be interconnected with the High Speed ​​Rail Line (HSR) at the railway station of Ano Liosion. The project budget also includes the line branch to the old Megaron station, the construction of which is an option that is activated with the approval of the environmental conditions for the section in question.
During its operation, it will serve the railway stations/stops: ELPE Aspropyrgos, Aspropyrgos, Vamvakia, Elefsina, ELPE Elefsina, Loutropyrgos, Nea Peramos and Megaron Station.
