Information spoke of scandals of a financial and sexual nature, as well as scandalous behavior – Shots fired by the monks’ lawyer
The Synodal Court made a decision to depose the two Archimandrites Nektarios and Porphyrios on holiday and to de-form the monk Abvakum.
According to a relevant announcement, the Six-member Synodal Court of the Church of Cyprus, consisting of the President of Metropolitan Kitios Nektarios, its members, the Metropolitans of Limassol Athanasios, Constantias Vassiliou, the Bishops, Karpasia Christophoros, Arsinois Pakratiou and Amathustos Nikolaos, following a referral before of the case of Archimandrites Nektarios Georgios and Porphyrios Ttoulos, of Hieromonk Abbakum Christofi, clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Tamasos and Orini, proceeded to adjudicate the case in question in judicial sessions, in the presence of all the Members of the Court and the defendants, in the Small Synod of Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus.
The Six-Member Synodal Court “having considered the conclusion of the Investigative Committee with the entire content of the witness material deposited in the Court’s Registry and the Indictment of the Ecclesiastical Prosecutor, proceeded to examine the prosecution and defense witnesses brought”.
“Having considered the submitted Expert Report of the independent experts summoned by the Six-member Synodal Court, the ecclesiastical prosecutor’s apologetics and the apologies of the Accused, it unanimously decided: the removal from the high ministry of the Priesthood due to regular offenses committed and the reinstatement in the ranks of the Monks, Nektarios Georgios, Porphyrios Ttoulos and Abvakum Christofis, former clerics of the Holy Metropolis of Tamasos and Orini, based on the Divine and Holy Canons of the Orthodox Church and the Provisions of the Charter of the Church Cyprus» he concludes.
Shots were fired by the monks’ lawyer, Ioannis Vavouskoswho claimed they were “forbidden to apologise, didn’t get to finish, and kicked out.”
He denounced that the Synodal Court “violated all the Holy Canons” and said that two more charges were added, for the appeal to the Supreme Court and for the interview the monks recently gave on a podcast.
