A new episode of domestic violence occurred in a town in Thessaloniki, with the victim a teacher who is threatened and abused by her estranged husband

A 38-year-old teacher and mother of two minor children in a town in Thessaloniki, who is threatened by her estranged husband and has experienced many episodes of domestic violence during her married life, lives with fear every day.

Despite the restrictive measures imposed by a Thessaloniki court on the 37-year-old not to approach the 38-year-old and not to go to her house where the woman lives with their two minor children, the estranged husband nevertheless continues the abusive behavior, ignoring the court decisions.

The latest episode occurred at noon on September 24 when, according to information, the 37-year-old cattle breeder by profession threatened the 38-year-old for the umpteenth time while breaking into her home demanding to see and take the children despite strict restraining orders imposed on him while he was recording the woman. illegally! In fact, authoritative sources reported to thestival.gr that the 38-year-old threatened to run over her with his four-wheeled machine (s.s. “pig” in the colloquial language) even after the 38-year-old had just left the school where she teaches.

The 38-year-old lives in fear of the threats of her estranged 37-year-old husband, and in the communication that thestival.gr had with her, she said that “at some point something bad will happen, because it doesn’t stop all this”.

As she reported, her estranged husband “does not sign the divorce” she has requested, pressuring her to reconstruct what she has testified in order to be acquitted in the criminal courts.

After the incident of September 24, on the same day the 38-year-old rushed to the Ampelokipo-Menemeni Police Station where the domestic violence office operates, testifying what she experienced again, while as usual the EL.AS officers went through the process. they suggested that she download the panic button application on her cell phone.

The 37-year-old who was arrested and taken to the competent judicial authorities for the above incident, is accused of criminal acts, while he was subsequently released without restrictive measures being imposed on him despite being a suspect.

The 38-year-old is experiencing a “Golgotha” due to the threats of her estranged husband and other members of his family and she feels particularly vulnerable as both minor children are present in the episodes.

It is recalled that domestic violence is a crime that is prosecuted ex officio and severely punished. Nevertheless, incidents of domestic violence are increasing geometrically while it is typical that only in the first five months of 2024 we had 7,494 incidents and 4,409 arrests, an increase of 67.45% compared to 2023.

Finally, it should be noted that the Greek Police, within the framework of its responsibilities, created Domestic Violence Response Services, which operate throughout the Territory. Specifically, 73 staff Domestic Violence Response Services were established, as well as 63 Domestic Violence Response Offices with operational-pre-investigative tasks.

The Hellenic Police manages every incident of domestic violence and informs the competent prosecuting authorities, while at the same time, it provides directions and information to the victims, for the search of housing structures, medical care, psychosocial and legal support.
