The mayor of Nestorius complains that “the road is built without any authorization and without information, notification or consultation with the competent authorities of the region”
An announcement, in which it states that an Army vehicle from the side of the Kastoria Municipality and the administrative boundaries of the Nestorio municipality “opens a road on the ridge of Grammos in the alpine zone without any information, notification or consultation with the competent authorities of the region” was issued by the Mayor of Nestorio, Christos Gosliopoulos.
He also notes that “the opening of the road takes place in a sensitive, pristine and infinitely beautiful area, protected by the “Natura 2000″ network” and destroys, as he says, the well-known hiking path that leads to the top of Grammos.
Mr. Gosliopoulos adds that “the road is being built without any licensing from the Forestry Directorate, the Ministry of Forestry, OFYPEKA, without an environmental impact study and without a technical study, as if we are a third-world country”.
The mayor emphasizes in his announcement that he addressed the director of the 9th Brigade, under whose responsibility Grammos is, “without getting any answer”, as he states, while he then sent a letter to the Directorate of the Health Ministry.
The area is under the jurisdiction of the army
The APE-MPE addressed the competent Directorate of Forests of the Decentralized Administration of Epirus – West. of Macedonia, whose head, Maria Tsiatoura, stated that at the point, both from the side of Epirus and the West. Macedonia, “the respective offices of Konitsa and Kastoria have proceeded with an autopsy and we await the conclusions of the report”.
To the question, whether environmental studies have been submitted to the Forest Service for the specific project, Mrs. Tsiatoura replied that “from the Kastoria side, the project is being carried out in the zone 500 meters from the border, which is under the full responsibility of the army”.
In any case, he stated that “the agency is aware and monitoring the matter.”
For his part, the deputy regional governor of Kastoria, Dimitris Savvopoulos, emphasized that “the road does not fall under the responsibilities of the regional administration”, that “it is being done within the zone of 500 meters from the border”, which is exclusively controlled by the Army, and that in the past the military leadership had shown sensitivity with Grammos by constantly sending machinery to maintain and open forest roads.
