The three arrested are accused of illegal detention and illegal violence (these two acts are complicit), disturbing the peace and disobedience
The three (out of the five) arrested for the incident that took place yesterday afternoon at the Old Philosophical School of AUTH, when students who had gathered to protest the elevator fall, were referred to the Single-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki to be tried, with the spontaneous procedure in the 3rd Student Residences of Thessaloniki, they prevented the rector of the Foundation, Charalambos Feidas, from leaving an event that was taking place on the premises and threw objects at the police forces who intervened.
According to the prosecution brought against them by the public prosecutor, the three young men (ages 20, 21 and 23) are accused of unlawful detention and unlawful violence (in complicity of these two acts), as well as of disturbing the peace and disobedience.
The other two arrested, a 26-year-old and a 20-year-old, were released yesterday with a prosecutor’s order and the case file for them was separated.
Announcement of EL.AS. about the incident
In an announcement by EL.AS. it is reported that “a group of gathered people, setting up a barrier, surrounded and prevented the rector of AUTH from leaving the scene”.
Subsequently, according to the same announcement, “police forces, in order to extricate the Rector and ensure his physical integrity, carried out a coordinated operation, during which five people were arrested”, while at the same time “they gathered and proceeded to throw objects at the police forces, using a fire extinguisher, causing damage to equipment and the building.”
