In situation high risk of fire (risk category 3) are areas of Attica and Evia, Heraklion and Lasithi, the Dodecanese, the Cyclades, as well as the islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria and Psara, according to Fire Hazard Prediction Map published by General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

As Civil Protection sources report, the prolonged rainlessness of the previous months, the minimal rainfall since the beginning of autumn and the strong winds prolong the risk of fires.

According to the same sources, despite the fact that since mid-September the Fire Risk Prediction Map is usually at indicators 1 and 2 (low and medium risk), this year many areas of the country are almost every day at indicator 3, while there were days even with an index of 4, i.e. one step before the state of alarm (eg on September 29 when the great fire broke out in Corinth).

According to Civil Protection sources, just before the second 15 days of October begins, the fire meteorological conditions remain dangerous and the coming week is expected to be difficult for the Fire Brigade forces.

It is noted that hot work is prohibited with index 3. Violators are subject to heavy fines, while the offense of negligently causing a fire has been upgraded from a misdemeanor to a felony and carries prison terms.
