“After 7.5 years of marriage and through many sorrows and begging God, he sent me my children. This is my life, this is what I live for and endure my injustice”
Shocking revelations about the tortured life of the elder in Kissamos, who for decades, from the age of 14, was abused in every way by her priest husband – come to light, through pages of her diary published by ERT.
“After 7.5 years of marriage and through many sorrows and begging God, he sent me my children. This is my life, this is what I live for and I endure my injustice, it has been chasing me since the first day I came into contact with a man, with Nikos my husband, who later became a priest”, confesses the woman.
On another page he describes the life of martyrdom he endured: “He has hit me many times, he insults me, there is no obscene word that I have not heard… I thought at first that he loves me so much that he is jealous. But now I think he doesn’t want me anymore. With his own judgement, he believes that one is street, one is naughty”.
The elder’s writings are revealing of both the sensitivity and delicacy of her character.
The woman was trying not to hurt her children, but also considered that the fact that she was a priest did not allow her to react publicly.
“Our children have listened many whole nights. I used to tell them milia, ahnia, for me please. I didn’t want anyone to know anything, not my family, not the villagers, not anyone. His position does not allow it,” he writes, among other things.
Angelos Klostrakis, one of the woman’s three sons, spoke to ERT about his mother – a wonderful, sensitive person and a perfect mother, who took care under conditions of violence, protected her children and generously offered them her love.
“My mother lived a martyr’s life amid fear, oppression. He was living in constant stress and for me that is the worst thing you can do to a person,” he said.
“Our mother deserves a normal life. She deserves all the years God gives her to live calmly, beautifully, with the people she loves and with the people she wants and will have by her side,” said her son.
The elder is still hospitalized in a serious condition at the Chania Hospital since 17/10/24, while for the former priest who worked for years in the Diocese of Kissamos and Selinos, a temporary order has been issued prohibiting all contact with his wife as he avoided the spontaneous procedure
