With the aim of better, better and faster service to the citizens, the Ministry of Citizen Protection proceeded to process changes issuing Identity Cards.

In particular, by decision of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, citizens now have the possibility to submit the supporting documents for the issuance of a new identity card to the competent Security Services, regardless of their place of residence. The authority to issue Identity Cards is no longer limited to the local level.

The security services, such as the Security Departments for the regions of the Attica and Thessaloniki Security Directorate, as well as the Sub-Directorates and Security Departments in the rest of the country, will serve all citizens.

Where such Services do not exist, identity cards are issued by the Police Department, which exercises security responsibilities in its area of jurisdiction, and in the event that this does not exist either, cards are issued by the Police Sub-Directorate based in the area in question.

With this new regulation, the optimal and most flexible service to citizens is sought, ensuring the immediacy of the provision of services.

Achieved:

  1. Flexibility: Citizens can choose any competent police authority to submit supporting documents and issue a new Identity Card, regardless of their place of residence.
  2. Time saving: The process is simplified and made faster, reducing delays and waiting, facilitating service in different areas.
  3. Immediate service: The citizen no longer needs to look for the local competent authority, as any appropriate agency can process the request.
  4. Reducing bureaucracy: With the new arrangement, the procedures are accelerated and the paperwork is simplified, offering a more direct and easy service.

The Ministry of Citizen Protection is always at the disposal of citizens to improve their daily lives and strengthen their security.

It is reminded that citizens can schedule digital appointments in a simple and friendly way through the id.gov.gr platform. for the issuance of a new type of identity card or its replacement due to a change in information, expiration, wear or age.

The platform was implemented by the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance of the Ministry of Digital Governance and the entry of citizens is made using the of Taxisnet codes.

Through the id.gov.gr platform, it is ensured that the time interval between the appointments of the interested parties for the same Identity Card Issuing Authority is maintained, sufficient for one appointment to be completed before the next one begins.

The procedure for planning the appointment in detail:

  • The citizen chooses in his application, any Issuing Authority he wishes, regardless of his place of residence or residence, a specific day and time from the availability list, so that he can be served in person. His details are automatically drawn from the Citizens Register and the National Contact Register (EMEp). In the event that he has not updated his details in the EMEp, he should either update them on the spot or complete them by declaration.
  • He can also submit a request for an appointment with the same procedure on behalf of his minor children, over 12 years of age.
  • Upon completion of the submission of the request, he receives an email with the basic information for processing the appointment, as well as the contact details of the Issuing Authority he has chosen.
  • The appointment scheduling request can be rescheduled or canceled or resubmitted no later than one (1) hour before the start of the scheduled appointment.
  • At various intervals before the start of the scheduled appointment, the interested party receives a reminder message from the platform to the email they have registered.

It is worth noting that especially in the case of loss or theft of the Police Identity Card, the citizen should contact (by phone or email) the competent Issuing Authority and request the scheduling of an appointment for the issuance of a new Identity Card.

Finally, natural persons can schedule an appointment for themselves as well as on behalf of third parties for the issuance or replacement of a new type of identity card, except in special cases (loss, theft, damage) and through the K.E.P.
