SKAI reveals the main points of the draft plan for the enlargement of the European Union.

The draft criticizes Turkey for its stance on the Cyprus issue, while focusing on Greek-Turkish, Albania and North Macedonia.

According to the draft, the Commission is expected to emphasize that it is of the utmost importance that Turkey commits and actively contributes to a fair, comprehensive and sustainable settlement of the Cyprus issue on the basis of a bi-communal bi-zonal federation.

While, as the draft states, Turkey continues to support the two-state solution, which is contrary to the resolutions of the UN Security Council.

Regarding the relations between Greece and Turkey, the specific draft states that they have improved further, reference is made to the fifth meeting of the high-level cooperation council in December 2023 during which the Declaration of Athens was signed.

At the same time, the draft notes that inflammatory rhetoric is now rare and that Ankara has not participated in any unauthorized drilling activity in the Eastern Mediterranean or in overflights.

Reference is also made to the conclusions of the April 2024 Summit in which the European leaders spoke of Turkey’s constructive attitude, that everything depends on Ankara’s attitude, while they also referred to the role that the European Union can play in the resumption of talks on Cypriot.

On the issue of Albania, the draft emphasizes the promotion of fundamental rights, clear reference to property and minorities, which concerns Greece.

As far as North Macedonia is concerned, the draft talks about respecting the bilateral agreements, among which are the Prespa Agreement and the Skopje Agreement with Bulgaria
