In 2023 the majority (46.1%) of adoptions involved newborns, infants and toddlers – 105.6% increase in adoptions of children aged 11-18
In 284 the acts came up last year adoption in the country – against 274 in 2022, presenting increase against 3.6%according to an ELSTAT survey.
Female adoptions stood at 144 and male adoptions at 140, representing an increase of 10.8% and a decrease of 2.8%, respectively, compared to 2022.
The adoptive parentsprimarily, it is two wives.
In this category there was an increase of 26.7% (from 161 to 204) in adoptions compared to 2022. A decrease (from 71 to 24) was observed in adoptions by a stepparent representing a single-parent family (66.2%).
Regarding the legal status of adopted children before adoption, the largest category is children who were born out of wedlock.
From the comparison of these figures between 2022 and 2023, a decrease in adoption acts from 18 to 6 (percentage of 66.7%) is observed in the “undeclared” categorywhere the information on the legal status of the adopted is absent.
While regarding the age of those adopted, in 2023 h majority (46.1%) of the acts of adoption concerned newborns, infants and toddlersage group 0-5 years.
An increase was observed in the number of adoptions for children aged 11-18 (105.6%), while adoptions of children aged 19 and over showed a decrease of 41.1%.
