The Turkish authorities issued an anti-NAVTEX which speaks volumes for the Turkish continental shelf in the area between Rhodes and Karpathos in response to last Friday’s Greek NAVTEX based on which the research vessel “O/V AEGAEO” continues its work on the electrical interconnection of the Dodecanese.

Ankara claims with a NAVTEX issued that Greece is conducting research on the Turkish continental shelf, in the area between Rhodes and Karpathos, regarding the location of the Greek research vessel for the development of a cable. Specifically, it is recorded that “part of the area of the investigations concerns the Turkish continental shelf which remains to be demarcated with the coastal states”, while the issue of jurisdiction also arises, with Ankara demanding that the coordination of investigations in areas of “Turkish jurisdiction” must be coordinated by the “competent Turkish authorities”.
