It is recalled that a strong earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale occurred at 19:03 in the region of Halkidiki, while it was felt both in Thessaloniki and Larissa.

The earthquake, according to the assessment of the Geodynamic Institute, had its epicenter 12 kilometers southwest of New Moudania, while the focal depth was estimated at 15.9 kilometers.

According to reports, the earthquake was particularly felt as far as Thessaloniki, but also in the wider area, causing great concern to residents, especially in the areas of Halkidiki that are close to the epicenter.

Four minutes later, at 7:07 p.m., a strong aftershock of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale occurred, with an epicenter slightly displaced 11 kilometers southwest of Nei Moudania and a focal depth of 8.3 kilometers, according to the preliminary assessment of the Geodynamic Institute .

Four other smaller aftershocks followed.

According to seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos, who spoke to SKAI 100.3, the area does not have a special seismic potential and noted that there had been two other smaller earthquakes in the previous days.
