Western Attica: EL.AS found an arsenal and large quantities of explosives – 5 arrests

Areas where large quantities of weapons and explosives were stored were identified by the Anti-Trafficking and Trafficking Sub-Directorate of the Organized Crime Directorate yesterday afternoon, November 4, 2024, in an area of ​​Western Attica, specifically in Mandra.

5 arrests

A thorough investigation preceded, in the context of which simultaneous searches were carried out in three houses and two underground spaces in Western Attica, where -5- people were arrested during the operation.

A case file was filed against them for – as the case may be – the offenses of possessing and manufacturing explosives, the laws concerning explosives, flares, drugs as well as antiquities and cultural heritage legislation.

What did the investigations find?

In total, from the searches carried out, on persons, houses and vehicles, the following were found and confiscated:

• -25- pieces of military explosives,
• -60- kilograms of ammonium dynamite,
• -4- pieces of explosive material,
• -7- coils of flame retardant rope,
• -2- detonators,
• -5,925- cartridges of various calibers mainly for military use,
• -2- weapons,
• -1- automatic weapon,
• -6- revolvers,
• -5- pistols,
• -1- double barrel,
• -1- single barrel carbine,
• -38- magazines of various calibers,
• -3- weapon silencers,
• crossbow, with -21- arrows,
• bulletproof vest,
• fixed wireless base,
• handcuffs,
• sword and three -3- knives,
• air rifle and air revolver
• large number of weapon parts
• -530- tablets narcotic tablets,
• metal detectors,

• -510- British pounds, worth about 420,000 euros,

Those arrested are expected to be taken to the competent Prosecutor.
