Ground firefighting forces have been stepped up, while water jets and aerial firefighting equipment have begun
The fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in a grassy area near the “Lamia” lake, in Vouprasio, Achaia, is in progress, with the work of the firefighters being made difficult by the marshy area and the strong winds that were blowing, the intensity of which, however, abated a little before midnight.
Firefighters fought the flames throughout the night – and are still fighting until now – to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the neighboring protected forest of Strofilia.
In fact, the ground firefighting forces operating in the area have been reinforced, while they have started throwing water and aerial means of firefighting.
In particular, 135 firefighters with eight pedestrian divisions and 37 vehicles, as well as two firefighting planes, are working on the front of the fire.
According to the Fire Department, the fire has not passed into the forest of Strofylia, burning until now an area mainly with reeds and some pine trees.
Regarding the weather conditions, the winds blowing in the area are north, northeast and reach four Beaufort, while they are expected to strengthen from the afternoon hours.
