Thousands of Turkish tourists are still in Thessaloniki today, on the occasion of the 86th anniversary of the death of Kemal Atatürk.

A memorial ceremony is currently being held at the house where the historical leader of their country was born and where the Turkish consulate in Thessaloniki is housed.

Bus lines

Apostolou Pavlou Street is closed to drivers, while the tourist buses with which the Turkish excursionists have arrived in the city are parked on both sides of Agios Dimitriou Street, up to the height of the Telloglio Arts Foundation of AUTH.

The house-museum of Kemal Atatürk

The Mustafa Kemal Museum is housed in the house where Mustafa Kemal, also known as Atatürk, i.e. “father of the Turks”, was born and is located on Apostolou Pavlou Street, behind the Turkish Consulate.

In 1981 the building was repainted in its original pink color.

Most of the furniture is original. Some missing furniture had to be replaced with others taken from the Mausoleum of Kemal and from Topkapi in Constantinople.

The house-museum consists of two floors.

On the first floor is the living room for foreigners, Kemal’s mother’s room, the living room and the kitchen. The second floor contains the room (his bedroom that is) where Kemal was born in 1881, as well as a life-size effigy of him along with some of the Turkish leader’s personal items (such as personal items, photos and clothing).

In another room, the personal belongings of the “father of the Turks” are displayed, and on the wall hang documents from his school.

On the walls visitors see many photographs from various phases of the life of the reformer of the Turks.
