The SAFE.YOUth application was presented by the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police at an event dedicated to the protection of minors and the prevention of violence held in the afternoon at the Athens Conservatory.

“Our decision is to protect the safety of children, especially where they gather to play. Parents feel safe for their children. We will leave no child unprotected. With the push of a button, we will be present to save the children who are at risk”, the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, emphasized during his presentation.

As he had emphasized, speaking to the TV station MEGA last week “Safe Youth” is complex, it contains many uses, I hope a very useful tool” and “along with 10201 that works, they are tools that are given to children and adults so that, when there is a hot event, the police are immediately reported and rushed, so that we can deal with it”.

He indicated indicatively, in fact, that “this year in the 10th month of 2024 we have 12,000 arrests of minors. Last year we had 8,600. Ages mainly from 13 to 17. This also concerns the parents. The responsibilities of parents are very important and very great, the lack of supervision of children”.

Regarding controls in bars for the consumption of alcohol by minors, he clarified that the Police with the current legislation has no possibility to carry out controls for alcohol, but now a relevant provision is being prepared, so that the Police can.

“On the other hand I think we have to look at this issue mainly with private events, parties in clubs and bars to collect some money. This eventually leads to drinks. This needs to be known to the police and the Government is bringing forward a series of regulations now in order to significantly improve the legislative framework,” he concluded.
