An agreement to strengthen cooperation both in the maritime domain and at the level of information exchange with the main objective of cracking down on illegal immigration criminal networks was reached yesterdayTuesday November 12, 2024, during the meeting in Chios of officers of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard and the Turkish Coast Guard.
According to a relevant announcement by the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, during the talks that were held in a particularly warm climate, it was agreed that there should also be regular communication at the local level between the Port Authorities and the two sides.
It is noted that the last time the two sides met was five years ago. Yesterday’s meeting was attended on the Greek side by staff members of the Coast Guard Headquarters – Hellenic Coast Guard, regional Commanders and Coast Guards of the Eastern Aegean, led by Captain L.S. Christian George. The Turkish delegation was led by Admiral Typhoon Pasaoglou who was accompanied by regional Commanders and Coast Guards of the wider Aegean region as well as staff members of the Turkish Coast Guard in Ankara.
The two delegations also agreed to meet again in February 2025, in Kusadasi, hosted by the Turkish Coast Guard.
