The gates of the Polytechnic closed at 1:00 p.m. – At 3:00 p.m. the march begins
With the established process at the US embassy, the events for the anniversary of the student uprising of the Polytechnic, in the early hours of November 17, 1973, culminate.
Despite the rain, many families with children, representatives of agencies and clubs came from the morning to the historic building complex of Patision, to pay tribute to the students.
Families with children also came to pay their respects, with a flower or a drawing and parents explaining the events to their children.
“Rain or snow, we said we would come, because it is very important to commemorate the anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising,” said the father of a six-year-old child.
“At school we celebrated the Polytechnic and I was excited for these students,” said Maria, a 4th grade student and added: “I am proud of them, because thanks to them we have freedom and I am happy.”
“We teach the children that we continue the fight,” emphasized the mother of two small children. The doors of the Polytechnic will remain open until one in the afternoon (13:00), when the Commemoration Committee’s event of honor and memory will begin, behind closed doors. The celebration of the 51st anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising will culminate, as every year, with the march to the American embassy.
