“The naval her Greece extended a series of naval exercises in the Laconic Gulf for the sixth time, extending them for another four months, as the country tries to prevent the transfer of Russian oil off its shores,” the Bloomberg agency emphasizes in its report.

The exercises, which were scheduled to end on November 15, will now continue until mid-March – more than ten months after they began – according to a statement from the Navy’s Hydrographic Service.

“The country’s Laconian Gulf at one time became a hub for ship-to-ship transfers between old tankers carrying Russian oil. As a result, Athens announced in May that it would conduct naval exercises in the area, barring the entry of commercial ships,” Bloomberg emphasizes.

“The government had previously said the exercises were aimed at halting cargo transfers identified by the global shipping watchdog as a risk to maritime security. As a result, Russian oil transshipments have been moved to a number of new locations, including others in the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea and off the coast of West Africa,” the report further notes.
