Who hasn’t read his stories Pinocchio and who hasn’t heard the phrase “don’t lie or your nose will grow”? The well-known fairy tale takes on “flesh and bones” in Kastoriawhere young and old visitors will have the opportunity to star in the Christmas adventures of the wooden puppet who dreamed of becoming a real boy.
For the first time in Kastoria, the adventures of Pinocchio are coming to life, under the auspices of the official foundation of the great author, Carlo Collodi, in Italy. The municipal authority with Makednos SA as co-organizer. and in collaboration with the creative team “Dream Workers” will enable residents, visitors and students from schools all over the country to “browse” for free the pages of this particular fairy tale in the company of Pinocchio, Geppetto, the cricket and the blue fairy , from December 8 and for a whole month.
On the first page of the story, of the route to the Christmas village, there in the workshop of old Geppetto, where Pinocchio was born from a piece of wood and turned into a doll, Santa Claus will also be found, while the fairy’s house “hides” an interesting ” surprise”. It is the point where the hero first lied and his nose grew. This time, the visitors will also have the opportunity to tell a lie, which they would like to be true and for a good cause, as along with the wish they will throw a coin into the lake. All the money collected from the wishes will financially support the Society for the Protection of People with Autism in the prefecture of Kastoria. Turning the pages one by one, they will reach the belly of the whale, where Pinocchio and Geppetto will be.
“We have created an interactive theme park, which we believe will attract the attention of young and old visitors from other regions. We took the step further and this Christmas we are hosting Pinocchio in the lake of Kastoria”, said the mayor of Kastoria, Dimitris Korentsidis, to the APE-MPE radio station “Agency 104.9 Fm”.
The initiative of the municipal authority comes to strengthen the tourism product of the city, while the messages for the holiday season are particularly optimistic. According to data from the Association of Hoteliers, there are already pre-bookings and increased occupancy in room bookings both for Christmas and New Year’s days as well as for Ragoutsaria, the traditional custom that is revived every year on January 6, 7 and 8 in the city .
“Kastoria has been attracting a lot of visitors since the pandemic and has gone up a lot in numbers in recent years. It is indicative that on weekends and three-day days the occupancy in the city reaches 100%”, adds Mr. Korentsidis, stressing that Kastoria has the specifications to be a leading tourist destination in the country.
