Almost ten days after the fire in a truck carrying soap and detergent production materials on Egnatia Odos, the cargo remains abandoned in Tyria, causing strong concern about new pollution.
Residents of the area found foam in the Tyria river, while dead fish were recorded, a result of the leakage of materials during the extinguishing of the fire.
The burnt-out section of the truck, abandoned next to a playground and a health shop, still carries barrels of dangerous chemicals, exposed to the weather.
The Municipality of Dodoni mobilized immediately, asking the competent services to remove the load and carry out sampling, but so far there has been no action from the competent authorities or the company responsible for the transport.
According to ERT, the Mayor of Dodoni, Christos Dakaletsis, filed a complaint with the Tyria Police Department, underlining the immediate risk of further pollution of the river and aquatic organisms, if the cargo is swept away by heavy rainfall.
