“Specific points have been selected throughout Attica for the cameras. This is done after a study by the Police, which has recorded in Athens and Thessaloniki where the cameras should be installed for two reasons: vehicle traffic and crime”, he emphasized to SKAI and on the show “Kalimera” with Fai Mauragani the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis.

As he clarified, “according to the schedule, in 1.5 years from today the cameras will be in operation. The Operations Center will be in the Police to have and store image. Regarding the recording of violations, the violation will be confirmed at the same time and the fine will go to the violator. The fine will be notified through the tax office,” he added.

“This money will go to the municipalities and the municipalities must use these amounts for infrastructure projects,” he said.

Also, Mr. Chrysochoidis underlined that “the number of traffic checks has increased. In 2024, 118,220 violations were confirmed, while in 2023 there were 47,900.”

Regarding the police officer of the Parliament who was arrested for domestic violence, the Minister of Citizen Protection emphasized: “It is a terrifying, horrific case. The human mind can’t handle it. From the first hour that the complaints were filed, all the required things that needed to be done have been done by the authorities. From the first moment, the Prosecutors, the psychiatric authorities of the National Health Service and now the Military Hospital are aware that there is hospitalization and detention”.

“For many days, the Directorate of Minors of EL.AS, with great sensitivity and great effort, made an effort to capture the image. The woman and the children from the first moment the children are under the protection of the Police”, he added.

On the occasion of the police officer involved in an international drug ring, Mr. Chrysochoidis emphasized that three police officers are involved in the case. “There is absolutely no way we can sweep anything under the carpet. All those who do not respect the democratic order will be exposed. The public official must serve his duty, with dedication, with faith and with honesty”, he said.

“There will be other arrests, there will be other clarifications and decipherings regarding past cases, which did not proceed because there was corruption or a cover-up. There are 4,500 cases, which have not yet been resolved,” he added.

Asked about the Ampelokipi case and terrorism, Mr. Chrysochoidis replied: Unfortunately, there are young children who, instead of making their lives better, have a penchant for making bombs to kill other people. It’s sad because they don’t see the fate of the older ones who are still in prison. There are very few who attempt to continue a phenomenon that in Greece, politically and socially, is finished. It has been cleared since the 1990s.”

“Anyone who is ugly on the field, unfortunately, his team is also punished. There is no tolerance. It is not about sports violence, it is criminal groups, extortionists, murderers, robbers, who through sports competitions recruit children for the criminal groups. This has no place,” the Minister of Citizen Protection emphasized, referring to the phenomena of fan violence.
