At least 1758 calls have been received by the Fire Operations Center since yesterday, Saturday November 30, 2024 at 11:00 am. until today, Sunday 01 December 2024 at 1:30 p.m., due to the bad weather “Vora” sweeping our country.

The calls concern tree cutting, removal of objects and water pumping and evacuations.

Specifically,

In Central Macedonia, 620 calls have been made so far:

  • 432 felling of trees
  • 50 item removals
  • 33 water pumping and
  • 4 person transports to a safe place

On the island of Lemnos 92 calls have been made so far:

  • 58 water pumping and
  • 34 transfers of people to safe places
  • In the afternoon hours of yesterday, November 30, 2024, the body of one (1) man was recovered from a river bed.

25 firefighters from Athens have flown to the island of Limnos.

On the island of Chios, 28 calls have been made so far:

  • 2 tree fellings
  • 13 water pumping and
  • 1 person transfer to a safe place

On the island of Rhodes, 1,000 calls have been made so far:

  • 1 tree cutting
  • 250 controls for water pumping where actions were taken in 25 cases and
  • 80 transports of people to safe places

35 firefighters from Athens with pumping machines and two (2) rescue boats have been flown in. In addition, 40 firefighters with 10 vehicles are traveling by ferry from Piraeus.

In Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 18 calls have been made so far:

  • 14 tree felling and
  • 4 water pumps

It is recalled that, according to the updated Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena (EDEKF) issued today, Sunday, December 1, 2024 by the National Meteorological Service (EMY), the rains and storms will be strong in some places until Tuesday (03-12-2024 ).

The Fire Brigade calls on citizens to be particularly careful and in the event of severe weather phenomena to faithfully follow the instructions of the competent authorities.
