The ELAS officer who is accused of numerous felonies related to his involvement in the action of a large international drug ring is being sent to prison after his apology to the Corruption investigator.
According to information during his confession he denied the charges against him, claiming that he was on a mission for his service.
The defendant, who served in Narcotics Enforcement and had resigned a few months ago, allegedly provided support to the ring through contacts he had with members of the ring, regularly receiving money for the services he was credited with providing.
The criminal group appears to have imported and trafficked large quantities of drugs into the country and is credited with transporting a huge amount of cocaine from Colombia.
According to the evidence of the case, the officer, with many years of service in the Narcotics Prosecution, gave critical information to leading members of the ring about the movements and actions of his colleagues and covered the action of the group of drug dealers.
The officer reportedly does not accept the charges, claiming the contacts in question were not reprehensible, but were in the course of his duties. According to information, before the investigator he said that he had been assigned a mission by his service.
The case was revealed through Europol, when a joint team of police and judicial authorities from Belgium, the Netherlands and France “cracked” the encrypted conversations of the traffickers of the ring. In these communications the role of the accused police officer emerged.
According to the Police, involved in the case are two other ELAS officers who are charged with acts of assisting, with cover-up procedures, the ring.
