Thessaloniki is now officially in the rhythm of the holidays, as the 18-meter-tall tree in Aristotelous Square and the Christmas decorations in the historic center were illuminated.
The mayor, Stelios Angeloudis, went up to the stage set up in Aristotelous Square, who invited the people who had gathered, despite the rain, to send the message about the Thessaloniki we love.
“Thessaloniki is here, it is one, in the best square in Greece”, emphasized the mayor and gave his wishes for Christmas.
For his part, the Deputy Mayor of Culture and Tourism, Vassilis Gakis, underlined that “if we are optimistic and believe in ourselves, Thessaloniki will move forward”.
After the illumination, fireworks lit up the city’s sky, adding another festive note.
The crowd was entertained by the songs of the Onirama band, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the concert of Michalis Hatzigianni. The presenter of the festive event was Grigoris Arnautoglou.
The Trade Association of Thessaloniki is organizing the White Night for the first time, during which the shops will remain open until late at night. But beyond the shopping, the Trade Association promises music, dance events and surprises for the children.
As announced earlier, the metro routes will be free today until 12.30 in the evening so that people can participate in the festivities.
