Football and basketball teams also expressed their sadness at the death of Nikos Sarganis. Specifically, messages of condolence were issued by PAE and KAE Panathinaikos, PAE PAOK and Kastoria.

PAE Panathinaikos:

“PAE Panathinaikos expresses its sadness for the loss of Nikos Sarganis, who passed away at the age of 70.

The deceased was born in 1954 in Athens. He was one of the top Greek goalkeepers, earning the nickname “Phantom”. He joined Panathinaikos in 1985 at the best moment of his career. He played at Trefoil until 1990, winning two Championships and three Cups. In fact, the 1988 Cup victory went down in history as Sarganis’ final, thanks to his saves in the penalty shootout in the match against the “eternal” rival and his accurate execution of a penalty. In Panathinaikos he recorded 114 appearances and two goals in all competitions.

We express our deepest condolences to his family”, PAE Panathinaikos noted on its official website.

PAOK PAOK:

“A great opponent, a great goalkeeper. Nikos Sarganis is no longer with us. PAOK PAOK expresses its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. Have a good trip “Phantom”…”, PAOK PAOK wrote on social media.

Kastoria:

“It is with great sadness and pain that we learned of the great loss of the “phantom” of our hearts, Nikos Sarganis. A man we experienced, enjoyed, at the beginning of his career and is an integral part of our memory, for his presence in KASTORIA, culminating in the winning of the cup by our team, in 1980.

Although words are really poor, to express our feelings of sadness and grief, for the great loss of Nikos, the Football Family of Kastoria expresses its sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased.

“Phantom” flew into the skies forever. People leave, legends, but like Nikos Sarganis, remain close to us, in our memories and in our hearts.

Have a good trip and Good Paradise, even if the soil that will cover you is light.

Niko, you will be unforgettable,” the Macedonian team said on Facebook.

KAE Panathinaikos:

“KAE Panathinaikos AKTOR expresses its deepest sorrow for the loss of Nikos Sarganis, who passed away at the age of 70. Our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones,” KAE Panathinaikos said on Twitter.
