Associated Press travel to Fourna Evrytania, the village of 180 residents that became famous for the original campaign, to invite large families to live there.

The initiative of the teacher and the priest of the village to attract families by covering their expenses from private donations and municipal programs, made Fourna known throughout Greece and beyond.

The international agency visited the village and spoke with the “protagonists” of the story. Already two families have moved to the village while another 5 are on a waiting list for 2025.

As the AP notes, Greece has one of the oldest populations in the world with 23% being over 65 years old.

The central Greek region of Evrytania, where Fourna is located, faces low birth rates and rural desertification, with an average age of 56.2 – one of the three highest in the European Union.
