The 19-year-old who spray-painted walls and windows at the “Venizelou” station of the Thessaloniki Metro was sentenced to 12 months in prison, with a three-year suspension.

“I did it for my girlfriend, to show her my love. I wanted her to see it, to impress her” he himself apologized in court, admitting that he wrote the word HATE – Heart A. (his name) To E. (girl’s name) in a total of four places. He expressed his remorse for the act, stressing that it was not right. “I have no right to intervene in this way. I could have deleted them, but I didn’t have time” added the 19-year-old and mentioned that he does not deal with graffiti, while the two sprays found in his possession had been given to him by a friend.

The Single-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki, which tried the young man with the automatic procedure, sentenced him guilty of defacing another’s property with an object used for common benefit, granting him the mitigating factor of post-adolescence.

It should be noted that his arrest took place in the early hours of Sunday and it was the first one linked to damages in the Thessaloniki Metro, after the project was put into operation.
