Rescue and search operation underway – 202 migrants have been rescued so far – Shipwreck and Cape Tainaro
Three shipwrecks with migrants took place at dawn off Gavdos after capsizing of boats and one at Cape Tainaro.
According to the Coast Guard, one person was recovered dead and 39 were rescued after a dinghy capsized in the early hours in the sea area 12, 5 nautical miles southwest of Gavdos. The operation to rescue and locate missing persons, which started on Friday evening, is still ongoing.
At the same time, 88 people were located and rescued in a boat in the sea area 28 nautical miles south of Gavdos under the coordination of the Joint Coordination Center for Search & Rescue, by a tanker with the flag of Great Britain, as well as 47 people from a cargo ship with the flag of Malta in the sea area 40 nautical miles miles south of Gavdos.
In addition, 28 people were rescued in the sea area at Cape Tainaro and transferred to the port of Kalamata.
