The modern electric version of the 80s Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 is an impressive sports car that could also be described as… “adrenaline on wheels”.
In a world first, Renault is using this documentary to unveil a new production model. Right at the end of the fourth episode there is an unexpected surprise. Viewers follow Luca de Meo, CEO of the Renault Group, Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of the Renault brand and Gilles Vidal, vice president of Renault Design, on a visit to the Design Department to see the future Renault 5 Turbo 3E, which confirmed as an upcoming production model, by Luca de Meo himself.
Forty-six years after the launch of the first Renault 5 Turbo, Renault intends to impress its friends with the revival of this iconic sports model. Making the reveal in a documentary is an unusual idea, but also one that fits a model that is truly unique. 2025 will see a series of exclusive events that will further reveal the shape and characteristics of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E.
The documentary reveals a little more about the future production model.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E presented with the eponymous exhibition prototype at the 2022 Paris Motor Show is a modern version of the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2. With unreal performance and the appearance of a car built for racing, the car is painted in the historic colors of one of the rally versions of the early 1980s. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is an all-electric hot hatch, with retro-futuristic design, with an extremely modern charging socket in one of the rear air intakes, bringing to mind the style of the original ‘Turbo’.
The carbon fiber body is lightweight and has excellent stiffness characteristics, two qualities that are fundamental to a “pocket rocket” worthy of its name and heritage.
Like its iconic ancestor, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will have rear-wheel drive. The two electric motors located at the rear wheels offer immediate response in the transmission of power to each wheel, achieving a total power of more than 500 hp. Behind the wheel, drivers will experience unique driving sensations, thanks to the instantaneous acceleration. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E will accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, a price equal to a supercar or even a hypercar. The Renault Group is incorporating the best of its skills and know-how into the development of this iconic milestone for Renault.
