The Military Regulations were revised by Giannis Kefalogiannis – What are the main changes announced
The revision of the Military Regulation of Organization and Operation of the National Guard, based on article 95 par. 19 of N. 5018/2023, signed today, Monday, by the Deputy Minister of National Defense Yiannis Kefalogiannis.
Among the changes included in the revision of the Military Regulations, the following are foreseen:
- In the National Guard Units it is possible most as it serves and female staff on a voluntary basis, which comes from the reserve and resides permanently in the area concerned.
- Personnel eligible to serve in National Guard Units must not have exceeded 67 years of age.
- Until today there was no provision for the promotion of National Guardsmen during the period of peace. Now, it is possible to award the honorary distinction of Second Lieutenant to National Guardsmen, as well as to promote them up to two (2) grades, after completing at least five years of service in the National Guard, for each promotion. Also, National Guard Officers will be promoted up to the rank of Major.
In his statements, Mr. Kefalogiannis said: “For the Ministry of National Defense, the National Guard is a force multiplier and practical proof is the initiatives we take to continuously upgrade the institution, providing capabilities that improve all factors of the Strategy for the National Guard. We express our gratitude to the National Guard for their great and selfless contribution to the defense of the territorial integrity and rights of our Motherland. They are the best proof of the mental greatness of the Greek and constitute an important component of the combat power of the Army”.
