The additional apology of the Larissa station master to the appellant investigator investigating the case of the Tempe tragedy was completed at noon on Thursday.

According to larissanet.gr, this was the first time the station master apologized to the appellant investigator since the latter took office on March 14, 2023. The station master’s first apology was given to the regular investigator on March 5 when it was decided to pre-trial detention . Last August, just before he reached the 18-month maximum pre-trial detention limit that can be imposed on an accused person, he was released from prison on a restrictive condition. According to information, the station master was asked about matters concerning his shift on the day in question after the departure of the passenger train.

According to information, the station master in his apology apportioned the responsibility for the tragedy to the driver of the commercial train who should have seen that he was going on the wrong line, to the two other station masters of the previous shift and to the inspector who put him on five consecutive days of shifts in a large station.

Also today, the senior official of the Directorate of Rail Transport of the Ministry of Transport was summoned for an apology after the criminal prosecution brought against her last week for the felony of disturbing the safety of transport resulting in the death of many people by omission and for misdemeanors inter alia serial manslaughter and negligent grievous bodily harm v confluence. However, he asked for and received a deadline to apologize starting in the new year.

It should be noted that the appellate investigator found sufficient evidence of guilt for another official of the ministry and the relevant order is in the hands of the competent appellate prosecutor who is expected to decide on criminal prosecution.

So far, the defendants for the Tempe accident amount to 41, of which seven are being prosecuted as a misdemeanor for what happened after the collision, that is, the interventions in the area (smash-clearing) and the investigation regarding the fire.

Finally, the managing director of the OSE and an employee of a private company who were called for explanations by the Larissa First Instance Prosecutor’s Office regarding the issue of not sending video material from the Thessaloniki Freight Station were given a deadline of January 2025.
