OSE clarifies: Volos Railway Station does not close

by

“The Railway Station of Volos is not closing, nor will it be closed” assures the management of the Hellenic Railways Organization, pointing out at the same time that “the staff that was seconded for a few days in Larissa, to cover urgent needs, will return to duty short-term “.

Specifically, OSE, following publications that saw the light of day in recent days regarding the “imminent closure of the Volos Railway Station” with its announcement, states the following:

«1. The Volos Railway Station is not closing and is not going to close. There was never a relevant announcement and decision. The Larissa – Volos Railway connection is carried out normally and – in terms of the Infrastructure Manager – will continue to operate normally as long as the Railway Companies serve it, as is the case for the other railway connections of the territory.

2. Staff was deployed from Volos Station for a few days in the beautiful area of Larissa in order to support urgent and critical needs for the development of the Organization. This staff will return to their duties within a short time and depending on the prioritization of the needs of the Organization.

3. The Hellenic Railways Organization is going through a period of significant reduction of its human resources given the retirement totals of its executives. Therefore, the replacement of retired executives is at this stage a major issue to be addressed and resolved, which the government through the competent Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Agency work systematically together.

4. Especially for the region of Magnesia, the strategic planning of the Ministry and the Organization includes, in addition to the upgrading of the connection of Larissa with Volos with electrification and signaling and the bypass of the new Ionia, the connection with the Port of Volos, the industrial 1 & 2, the airport of Anchialos and the industrial area of Almyros in a wider impressive railway design in order to enhance combined transport and the leading role of the Port of Volos in the transport landscape of the country.

5. The Hellenic Railways Organization has a Department of Communication and Public Relations and Administration, all of which are at the disposal of the media for any issue related to the Greek Railway. It is therefore questionable that publications in the electronic and printed press are circulating without them having undergone a basic cross-examination “.
