Happy ending for the five German climbers on Mount Dikti

by

A happy ending was the rescue operation of five climbers from Germany, which was set up on Mount Dikti, shortly after midnight on Monday.

The five people according to the mayor of Lassithi Plateau were lost in the mountains and were located above the village of Mesa Lassithi at an altitude of 1,200 meters, with snow in the area exceeding 1.5 meters.

The five members of the family are good health and after a medical examination at the K.Y., they were transferred to the City Hall of the Municipality of Lassithi Plateau in Tzermiades, where they stayed overnight.

The operation involved a group of EMAK, the Lassithi Fire Service, EKAB Tzermiades, the Tzermiades Police Station, the volunteer Rescue Team of Crete and the Civil Protection of the Municipality.

Most likely, the five people had previously attempted to climb the snowy Dikti, with Mr. Stefanakis stating that “the mythical mountain is the most hospitable international destination for alternative mountain tourism, but always consciously, with attention to the weather conditions, with appropriate equipment and with the instructions and information of the Civil Protection “.
